The family of beloved celebrity zookeeper Jack Hanna has announced he’s retiring from public life after his dementia diagnosis has quickly progressed.

This is just so heartbreaking. Celebrity zookeeper Jack Hanna  — who has appeared on countless TV shows about the wonders of wildlife — is now believed to be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and is retiring from public life. The family of the 74-year-old conservation expert announced in a long letter via social media on Apr. 7, 2021 that “Doctors have diagnosed our dad, Jack Hanna, with dementia, now believed to be Alzheimer’s disease. His condition has progressed much faster in the last few months than any of us could have anticipated. Sadly, Dad is no longer able to participate in public life as he used to.” We’ve got five things to know about Jack.

Jack was a prominent longtime zookeeper

He became famous nationally through his role as Director of Ohio’s Columbus Zoo from 1978 to ’92. He then took on an emeritus role and was a spokesperson for the zoo before retiring in 2020.

Jack appeared in numerous television shows about wildlife

He was well known to audiences thanks to hosting syndicated shows such as 1992-2011’s Animal Adventures, 2007-2020’s Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild, and 2011-2020’s Jack Hanna’s Wild Countdown. The shows traveled the globe, featuring all different species of wildlife, as well as conservation efforts for the animals.

Jack was a beloved and familiar face on late night and morning TV talk shows

Jack appeared on Late Night With David Letterman 25 times between 1985-1993 when the show was on NBC, and a whopping 68 times when David moved to CBS with The Late Show between 1993-2015, always bringing along interesting animal species to amuse and educate the audience. He and his animals also appeared on The View, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Late Late Show with James Corden and made 39 appearances on ABC’s AM show Good Morning America between 1990-2019.

Jack is a family man

He’s been married to his college sweetheart wife Suzi for 53 years, and she traveled the globe with him on his animal conservation efforts. The couple has three daughters, Kathaleen, Suzanne and Julie, who were the ones who penned the heartfelt letter about their dad’s dementia diagnosis.

Jack’s health is sadly fading fast

His daughters noted in their letter that “While dad’s health has deteriorated quickly, we can assure you that his great sense of humor continues to shine through.” They added, “And yes, he still wears his khakis at home,” referring to his iconic khaki long sleeved shirt and pants that he would wear during all TV appearances and trips into the wild.

Meghan Markle made a heartbreaking claim during her interview with Oprah Winfrey that there was speculation within the royals about her unborn child’s skin tone.

Meghan Markle, 39, has claimed that conversations were had within the royal family about the darkness of her unborn child’s skin. The heartbreaking comment came during her interview with Oprah Winfrey, in Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A Primetime Special which aired on CBS on March 7.

During the conversation the Duchess of Sussex also claimed that neither she nor her husband Prince Harry made the decision that their son Archie would not receive a royal title. She also claimed that their child was denied protection.

Asked by Oprah if she had any “suspicions” about why the royals didn’t want “Archie to be a prince,” specifically if it was “because of his race,” Meghan offered to give “an honest answer.” “In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, we had in tandem the conversation of him not being given security or a title and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might when he’s born,” she said.

Meghan is biracial – the daughter of an African-American mother, Doria Ragland, and white father, Thomas Markle. The Duchess refused to reveal to Oprah exactly who mentioned her baby’s skin color. She would only say that “several conversations” took place, conceding that it would “be very damaging” to reveal the person or persons’ identity.

“That was related to me from Harry,” she said, “That was a conversation family had with him. It was really hard to be able to see those as compartmentalized conversations. I wasn’t able to follow up as to why, which is really hard to understand.

“The Commonwealth is a huge part of the monarchy and I lived in Canada, which is a Commonwealth country, for seven years. But it wasn’t until Harry and I were together that we started to travel through the Commonwealth, which is 60 to 70 percent people of color. Growing up as a little girl of color, I know how important representation is. I know how you want to see someone who looks like you in certain positions.” HollywoodLife has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment on the Duchess’s allegations.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to speak to Oprah has sparked backlash against the couple in the U.K. where Prince Harry’s grandfather Prince Philip is recovering from heart surgery. In the few weeks since CBS announced the primetime special the 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh has been transported between two London hospitals while battling an infection.

On Feb. 20 he was visited by his oldest son, Prince Charles, who is Prince Harry’s father. The heir to the throne had tears in his eyes as he left the hospital. The situation has garnered sympathy for the monarchy back in the U.K. and prompted calls for the broadcast to be delayed on both sides of the Atlantic.

Going ahead with the “no holds barred interview” with Oprah “makes them appear heartless, thoughtless and supremely selfish,” royal commentator and author Robert Jobson told the MailOnline.

Meanwhile, on March 5, the co-hosts of Loose Women (the British equivalent of The View) deemed the Oprah tell-all as being “a bit unsavory” and accused Meghan, Harry and the royals of washing their “dirty linen in public.”

However, in the U.S. the couple has won a lot of support, especially from Meghan’s fans, friends and former work colleagues. On March 5, Patrick J. Adams – who worked with the Duchess on the series Suits – tweeted a thread wholeheartedly defending her. “It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, clickbaiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the U.K. and the world but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret underestimating her,” read one of his tweets.

Before the Oprah special aired on CBS, Prince Harry spoke to The Late, Late Show host James Corden. In a segment that aired on Feb. 25, the dad-of-one told the fellow Brit why he and his wife decided to leave the royal family as working members. “It was never walking away,” the redhead said. “It was stepping back rather than stepping down. It was a really difficult environment as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like and it was destroying my mental health. I was like, this is toxic.”

The Queen delivered a speech to mark Commonwealth Day just hours before grandson Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah was scheduled to air.

Queen Elizabeth II addressed the 54 Commonwealth nations in a speech on Sunday, Mar. 7. Commonwealth Day happened to fall on the same day as Oprah Winfrey‘s interview with Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle, 39, is set to air on CBS. The Queen, 94, began her speech with a look back at the difficult year many have had through the COVID-19 pandemic. “Whilst experiences of the past year have been different across the commonwealth stirring examples of courage, commitment and selfless dedication to duty have been demonstrated in every Commonwealth nation and territory. Notably by those working on the front line,” she said.

“In our everyday lives we have had to become more accustomed to connecting and communicating via innovative technology which has been new to some of us. And I hope we shall maintain this renewed sense of closeness and community,” she added. In a recent interview with James Corden, Prince Harry revealed he has stayed in touch with his grandmother since moving to California over Zoom. “Looking forward, relationships with others across the Commonwealth will remain important as we strive to deliver a common future that is sustainable and more secure. So that the nations and neighborhoods in which we live wherever they are located become healthier and happier places for us all.”

It was announced that The Queen would be speaking on the BBC via a statement on Friday, Mar. 5.  The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr. David Hoyle, said, “The Commonwealth Service is one of the Abbey’s most important annual services, but as it is not possible to gather here, we have seized the chance to take the celebration well beyond these walls.” He added, “We are so pleased that this rich and vibrant BBC programme with the royal family and the Abbey at its heart will celebrate our global connections at a time when we are all so physically isolated.”

In previews shared of the Oprah interview, Meghan expressed how she felt “expressing her truth” since officially walking away from the Royal Family in Feb. 2021. “I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us,” she said in a shocking clip, seemingly referring to the Royal Family and palace officials as “the firm.” The pregnant Suits alum then went on, “And if that comes with risk of losing things — I mean, there’s a lot that’s been lost already.” Since, reports have been swirling accusing the actress of “bullying” palace staffers — which she swiftly denied.

It was announced via an official Buckingham Palace statement in January that Harry and Meghan were “stepping down” from official Royal duties. This means they will no longer use their HRH titles, no longer continue work with Royal patronages, and also repay Sovereign Grant used to refurbish Frogmore Cottage, where they lived in the U.K. “Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family,” the Queen said, adding that she “recognized the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny.”

“Harry, Meghan and [1-year-old son] Archie will always be much loved members of my family,” she added, thanking them for their “dedicated work” in the U.K. and the Commonwealth countries, which include Canada where they resided in 2019. She ended her statement with the “hope” that the couple could “build a happy and peaceful new life,” while an additional palace statement confirmed that stepping away means “it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.”

Meghan and Harry responded back with a statement of their own, seemingly clapping back at the “public service” comment. “As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organizations they have represented regardless of official role,” they said, adding, “We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

Less than a month later, Harry and Meghan confirmed the happy news that they’re expecting their second child! The couple looked so happy as they smiled and posed under a tree for a black-and-white portrait by their friend Misan Harriman, showing off the 39-year-old’s growing bump. “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” a statement issued to HollywoodLife read from a representative for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” they also said.

Just as the first promo for their big Oprah interview dropped, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went for a sunny drive Santa Barbara just like any normal couple.

Apparently there are no more chauffeurs for Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle, despite their mega-money deals with Netflix and Spotify. The former senior working British Royals were photographed driving around Santa Barbara, CA not far from their $14.7 million Montecito mansion on Sun. Feb. 28, with Harry behind the wheel of the black Range Rover and Meghan riding shotgun. They each wore dark sunglasses on the bright day, and pregnant Meghan, 39, donned a chic straw sunhat. It’s unclear where they were headed, though the former Suits star’s mom Doria Ragland was in the back seat behind her daughter. It didn’t appear that their 21-month-old son Archie made the outing with his parents. You can see the photos here.

Meghan looked fresh-faced and wearing minimal makeup. It was a far cry from how glammed up she will appear in the upcoming two hour CBS interview with pal Oprah Winfrey, 67, on March 7. Just as Harry and Meghan were out for a Sunday drive, the first 30 second promo clip dropped, which showed the former actress with a dramatic deep, dark smokey eye, strong coral blush and a pink lip. Meghan wore her dark locks pulled back, with tendrils framing her face for the sit-down.

Meghan donned a $4,700 black Armani dress with white floral-like splotches on one shoulder for her first sit-down interview since she and Harry announced in Jan. 2020 that they were stepping down as working members of the British Royal Family. Their bombshell announcement came just 19 months after their $30 million wedding. Right off the bat in the teaser promo, Oprah asked the provocative question, “Were you silent or were you silenced?” and Meghan was shown giving a stern look in return.

Oprah and Harry did all the talking in the promo, as well a second one that dropped the following morning. Meghan was not shown speaking or giving any responses. She said something during in the interview that caused Oprah to responded with the comment, “almost unsurvivable sounds like there was a breaking point.”

Oprah also explained to Meghan and the audience, “there is no subject that is off limits” and added later, “You’ve said some pretty shocking things here.” Meghan will be featured in the first portion of the interview, and will later be joined by Harry. The 36-year-old made his first interview appearance on American TV for The Late Late Show with James Corden. Like Oprah, James is another close pal of the couple, and both attended their lavish May 19, 2018 royal wedding at St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Harry told James during the interview that aired on Feb. 25 that he “stepped back” rather than actually quit the British Royal Family. “It was never walking away — it was stepping back instead of stepping down. It was a really difficult environment as a lot of people saw.” He also said of the couple’s move from England to California, “We all know what the British press can be like. It was destroying my mental health. It was toxic.” Their open air double decker bus ride wasn’t all seriousness, as Harry also revealed that his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II gave Archie a waffle maker for Christmas, which has given the tot endless fascination.

Mark Ruffalo’s kids, 19-year-old Keen and 15-year-old Bella, hopped behind their dad as he delivered his acceptance speech for ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series’ at the Golden Globes!

Mark Ruffalo‘s kids decided to share their famous dad’s limelight during his acceptance speech at the 2021 Golden Globes! The Feb. 28 event was virtual this year due to the pandemic, meaning the 53-year-old actor had to accept his “Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series” award for playing twin brothers in the film This Much Is True from home. This gave the Avengers star’s teens Keen, 19, and Bella Noche, 15, the opportunity to crash their dad’s speech…which they took!

— Chicks in the Office (@ChicksInTheOff) March 1, 2021

After Mark’s name was called, his son Keen jumped into the frame to celebrate. Then, as Mark delivered his passionate speech by the side of his wife, Sunrise Coigney, their two older kids hopped back into the frame to share the celebratory moment. Twitter freaked out over the wholesome moment.

— E! News (@enews) March 1, 2021

Despite the lighthearted moment, Mark used the spotlight to share an incredibly important message for the Golden Globes viewers. “Let’s turn the page on the cruel past of this nation. The good news is inclusion and justice and care for Mother Earth is breakout out everywhere. The godly light of decency is breaking through the hideous, dark storm we’ve been living through,” the actor for “The Hulk” urged fans.

While the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards the most prestigious shows, films and actors/actresses every year, that doesn’t mean celebrities try to bring some lighthearted fun into the annual event — just like Mark’s kids did tonight! Just look at Ricky Gervais: the famous comedian boldly took jabs at Judy Dench, James Corden and the movie Cats (which both Judy and James starred in) during his monologue at the 2020 show.

A throwback photo of Mark Ruffalo with his family at the 2017 premiere of Thor: Ragnarok. Mark and Sunrise are also the parents of their 13-year-old daughter, Odette. [AP]And then there have been Tina Fey and Amy Poehler‘s many on-stage routines throughout the years. During one of these hosting gigs in 2015, Amy poked fun at the fact that George Clooney was receiving the lifetime achievement award despite the fact that his wife, Amal Clooney, has an impressive career as a human rights lawyer.

Stars don’t always use the spotlight to crack a joke, however (like Mark). During his opening monologue at the 2018 show (amidst the #MeToo Movement), Seth Meyers put aside his usual jokes to call out high-ranking Hollywood figures like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey who had been accused of sexual misconduct.

For her breakthrough performance, Maria has been nominated Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

The actor’s song for the film, “Speak Now,” is also nominated for Best Original Song.

Vanessa Kirby

Despite her breakout performance in The Crown as a young Princess Margaret, Vanessa Kirby, 32, wasn’t a Golden Globe nominee until now. She’s nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama after her stunning and gut-wrenching portrayal of a woman who lost her baby during childbirth. Vanessa’s performance in Pieces of a Woman was one of the best of 2020.

Tahar Rahim

Tahar Rahim, 39, is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. He wowed with his incredible performance in the 2021 film The Mauritanian alongside Jodie Foster. To get into the character of Gitmo detainee Mohamedou Ould Slahi, Tahar dropped 20 pounds in less than a month. “It was not the usual way of acting, where I take my emotions and pull them out,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “This time it was so strong, my emotions led me somewhere. I would follow them to a place where I literally was discovering. As actors, we’re seeking to touch the truth; I felt I touched it a little.”

[Verse 1]
Ayy, uh
I’m puttin’ numbers on the board and blowin’ more digits
I haven’t started, man, these are just the before pictures
Shout out my parents, my mother gave birth to four winners
All of the players in the game, it’s always cold benches
Been in the studio, I forgot how to sleep
Not tryna make an album they forget ’bout in a week
They said the fruit never gon’ fall far from the tree
I used to be the kid, now the kids wanna be me
Trippin’ ’bout my future like way before there was cameras
Hella plans on my calendar ‘fore I went all professional
Less souls to trust, man, these people makin’ me cynical
More copycats and less people soundin’ original
Same destination, we just took different routes
Fuck bein’ one the greatest, I’m tryna be the greatest one
I ain’t sayin’ I ain’t grateful for everything I’ve become
But the throne is more comfortable than this chair I’m sittin’ on
My name is Brian, cold bars is what I’m known for
If my vision is scarin’ me, then I don’t go for it
‘Member my first days here when it was all foreign
Now I’m on TV with James Corden, that shit was crazy
Just got a place with a backyard, I feel amazing
Nothin’ can get between me and the dreams I’m chasin’
Ain’t got the time for partyin’, no more gettin’ wasted
Unless you got the 1942, man, then get the chaser
You hatin’ on me, but you know I gotta
You big in your city, I’m the king of a continent
These rappers tryna make the trendin’ topic
Why the state of music goin’ south?
But I don’t even want to talk about it
Let’s talk about it, nah, let’s talk about it
Before all these folks decide it’s cool to give a fuck about it
Everyone’s tryna make hits, I’m just tryna make music
You know, the kind that makes you feel when you listen to it?
I’m the youngest child, I don’t need more attention
You writin’ some bullshit, I write the lyrics meant for the captions
I’m makin’ songs that’ll probably outlive us for generations
Started off as the sailor, look at me, now I’m the captain
I won’t lie, this shit is fun
Tell these Asian kids they could do what they want
Might steal the mic at the GRAMMYs just to say we won
That everyone can make it, don’t matter where you from

Can’t forget about the day that Sean called me
Talkin’ ’bout a vision called 88 that he’s dreamin’
Man, I love him like a brother, if we fall, we gon’ recover
Just a man with a vision who mastered in causin’ trouble (You can’t see)
Man, I can’t see the finish line
Fall back, fall back, I ain’t fuckin’ ’round this time (Anymore)
Did God know he created a legend in ’99? (Anymore)
Fuck pretendin’ on a track, man, I mean every single line

[Verse 2]
Touched down, never holdin’ back
Shinin’ like some bustdown, sailin’ ’round without a map
Been a underdog, now it’s time to let me quarterback
Killin’ shit in uncharted territories, man this shit get hella gory
Whole country of people proud, so I’m never worried
Glad you’re sittin’ through the credits, man, this is my story
The type of shit that make me cry when I record it
This the type of shit that still gon’ make me cry even when I’m 40
R.I.P. Nipsey, R.I.P. Mac
These inspirations always gon’ motivate me to rap
Let’s celebrate their lives and the people that they impact
The marathon continues, ain’t no way we lookin’ back
Amazon Prime flow, you know I’ll always deliver
We crossed oceans for a chance just to feel somethin’ better
Generations to sacrifice, that we’ll always remember
It’s that circle of life shit, they hold me up like I’m Simba
They told me I ain’t welcome, I’m here to stay, and my visa says so
Just wait and see who’s songs they gon’ blast up in they headphones
Come back like every couple years to destroy like tornadoes
Victorious tropical flow comin’ straight from Indo’
These plants only grow to just get cut and disposed
Their spotlight is dimmin’, my future’s so bright that it glows
You want the blueprint for impossible, I’ll let it show
Remember when Pac said, “The concrete grows a rose”
